Rodents

Signs Of Rats

  1. Strange sounds in the walls, including squeaking, scurrying, and running noises

  2. Piles of droppings in hidden areas in your attic, or the corners of the home

  3. Smudges along the walls, which look like a mixture of dirt and grease

  4. Nests made of insulation, shredded paper, bits of fabric, or other soft material

What to do

  1. Inspect the outside of the house - pay special attention to damaged drains, cracks in your garage door, gaps around vents, and spaces in the foundation - for obvious access points

  2. seal any gaps in your interior or exterior walls

  3. One of the best ways to get rid of rats without poison is to eliminate their hiding places. Clean up the clutter in and around your home and move objects away from the walls

  4. Trapping is a poison-free method of reducing rat populations. If you’re going to place your own traps, be sure you use plenty of them and that you position the traps in high-activity areas. Use peanut butter, bananas, or grapes as bait.

PEST CONTROL - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Wasps

Aside from different nesting preferences, the main difference between bees and wasps is that bees feed their larvae pollen, while wasps — a category that includes yellow jackets and hornets — nourish theirs with insects. That means that wasps are actually great to have around the garden because they control nearly all types of pests.

Despite all the ways wasps can benefit your yard, wasps can still sting and cause an allergic reaction. Before they build a nest that’s a little too close for comfort under your porch roof or even inside your home, it’s time to do something.

  1. Don’t swat at them! Swatting at a wasp tells it to release pheromones that will trigger other nearby wasps to perceive you as a threat, exactly what you don’t want to happen.

  2. Plain Soap and Water. You can tackle small hanging nests with a mixture of about two tablespoons of dish soap in a spray bottle filled with water. The soap clogs their breathing pores (called spiracles) and they die almost instantly

  3. Peppermint oil may also be effective at repelling wasps. You can try applying it as described above

  4. Use a DIY insect spray that you can purchase from a store

  5. Never attempt to remove a wasp's nest by yourself

Ants

How to Get Rid of Outdoor Ants

  1. Send out a search party. Look for ant beds in your yard or along your home's foundation

  2. Make a splash. Once you’ve found the nest, pour boiling water over the ant hill or spot treat with an outdoor insecticide

  3. Get to (house border) work. A well-kept property is the easiest way to keep ants at bay. Keep a watchful eye for branches, bushes, or shrubs that touch your house and can provide easy access for ants to make their way inside

How to keep ants out of your house

  1. Seal all entry points. Caulk and seal any cracks or exposed crevices in doors and windows

  2. Keep food—especially honey and sugary items—in airtight containers or tightly wrapped with foil or plastic wrap

  3. Regularly clean counter tops, floors, cabinets, and pantries where crumbs are most likely to hide. Keep your pet's food properly stored between feedings and regularly clean pet bowls

  4. Take out dustbins. Make sure dustbins (especially in the kitchen!) are covered and inspect the can for any residue that might be lingering after you take out the bins

  5. Call Dragon Stop Pest Control to eliminate them
